Antique Staffordshire Recumbent Lion Pair

A wonderful pair of antique English Staffordshire recumbent lion figurines, each modeled reclining on a naturalistic rocky plinth with a richly detailed mane, painted whiskers, and warm honey-caramel glaze — the quintessential Victorian mantel lion.

These lions originally had glass eyes, a hallmark of late 19th century Staffordshire craftsmanship, but the glass has been lost over time and the eye sockets have been painted in, a common condition issue on pieces of this age. 

Lions measure 10” long, and 9” tall. There is crazing, but no chips or cracks.
